A venture into live steam locomotive construction
  • Newer →

Overview

This blog follows the construction of a 1.6" scale (7.5" guage) live steam powered model of the Frisco 1522 Mountain class locomotive. It is based upon castings for the Heavy Mikado 2-8-2 from Railroad Warehouse and the Pacific 4-6-2 from Little Engines. Discussions about the project can be found on the Chaski - Home Machinist - Live Steam - Build Log forum under the 'Frisco 1522 Project'.

The Frisco 1522

The Frisco 1522 is a two-cylinder, simple 4-8-2 Mountain-type steam locomotive built in 1926 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the St. Louis- San Francisco Railway commonly known as the Frisco. It was retired, and in May 1959 donated to the Museum of Transportation, St. Louis, Missouri, where it is currently on display. It was returned to operational status in 1988 and operated excursion rail trips till 2002 when it was placed back into retirement at the museum. --wikipedia
